Core Task 001
Fright Type
Shown ‘Fright Type by Lee Bennett
The brief – “A well known type foundry is hosting a major exhibition at the Royal College of Design on the use of typography within the film industry. Focusing primarily on horror, scifi and thrillers, the exhibition will explore new techniques in typography, showcase some of the best typographical work in the country and exhibit examples of classic typography posters. The poster should hinge around a bespoke font/typography that encompasses the exhibition. The use of additional imagery and special effects is at your discretion.”





Core Task 002
TeePee Political Merchandising
Shown ‘Dictatorships’ by Tom Martin and ‘Sold to Slavery’

The brief – “TeePee is an online tshirt brand specialising in a range of urban/cool tshirt designs that focus on relevant issues in modern life. TeePee is launching a new collection for which they are seeking new tshirt designs.
TeePee is a socially and environmentally friendly company, supporting charitable causes and running its business with minimum waste and impact. All tshirts must have an obvious and strong message. TeePee’s are designed to be noticed. Illustrative and typographic devices play a large part in their look.”



Core Task 003
Less is More Posters

The brief – “Less is more is a series of posters featuring words ending is ‘less’. The posters are designed to provoke thought and discussion. Create an A3 illustrative/typographical poster based on the theme of ‘Less is more’.
The poster must contain your selected word from a choice of Tasteless, Shameless, Flawless, Endless, Priceless, Reckless and Painless and your interpretation of that word.”



Core Task 004
Hands On Event

The brief - “Somerset House is organising a series a ‘workshops’ to promote ‘hands on’ design. The workshops will focus entirely around producing creative graphic design without any computers whatsoever.
The workshops intends to promote the diverse range of alternative creative channels open to designers in order to inspire them to move away from their Macs and get their hands dirty.
The client requires a poster advertising campaign and A5 programme to promote the workshops. The organisers are looking for a strong, creative and clever message that clearly inspires designers to experiment in alternative mediums. You cannot use the computer to create any of the content.”

Architectural Typography

The brief - “To create a typographical suite of literature that represents an iconic building or style of architecture from around the world. The finish treatment may be based on the actual building, the architect or a combination of both.”
